SPRING GASSHUKU (NATIONAL)

Outline of Event:

Weekend residential training course on the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond, organised by the Glasgow Karate-do Shoto Association under the guidance of Mr Stephen McGlinchey.

   
Limited to: 30 applicants (with a maximum of 20 residential applicants), dealt with on a first come, first served basis.
   
Suitable for:

All grades/skill levels.
All ages from 18 upwards.
Younger applicants may be considered on two conditions:
1) They are accompanied by a responsible adult (e.g. parent or teacher acting in loco parentis).
2) They have a letter of recommendation from their sensei or principal teacher.

Guests, partners, family are welcome at this event. They do not take part in the training, of course, but are welcome to take part in the social side of the event. The fee, however, remains the same per person.

   
Training Details:

Training will be on the banks of Loch Lomond on the grass, provided we have good weather. If the weather is poor, training will be in the Cashel (a hall in the centre of a forest on the banks of the lake).

The following instructors have been invited to teach at this year's Spring Gasshuku:

  • Dr Mohi Chowdhury (London)
   
Accommodation: Accommodation (for those who are residential) will be in the Premier Inn (Milngavie) which is a 30-40 minute drive from the training venue. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis unless there are special needs that need to be met.
   
What to bring:
  • Karate-gi (preferably two, if you have them)
  • Bo and jo (if you have them)
  • Tabi (optional)
  • Warm clothing
  • Evening wear (for the course dinner). Dress code is 'smart casual'.
  • Towels
  • Personal hygiene items (e.g. toothbrush, paste, soap, shaving items etc.)
   
Cost & Deadlines :

All deadlines will be strictly adhered to, without exception. The prices listed below are residential rates. If a person wishes to participate on a non-residential basis, the cost will be 50% less.

*For those travelling from London, travel in the minibus (if you are in the first 15 applicants and apply by 14 March) is FREE!

The prices listed above includes the following:

  • Accommodation (Friday and Saturday night).
  • Premier breakfast (eat as much as you like) on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
  • Local travel within the area (a minibus will be hired) between Glasgow and Loch Lomond.
  • Training for the weekend (inc. tuition, hall hire, equipment costs).
  • Course dinner voucher (total value = £20) at the Beefeater (situated within the hotel) - menu can be viewed here.
  • Grading fee (if applicable).

The prices listed above do NOT include the following:

  • Travel to Glasgow (unless you are in the first 15 applicants travelling from London and have applied by the early bird deadline of 14 March)
  • Subsistence outwith that listed above.

Chief instructors of organisations may attend as the guests of the gasshuku (i.e. free). All we humbly ask is that they share their knowledge and skill by teaching at least one session during the weekend.
