Outline of Event:

Weekend residential training course in Megève in the beautiful Alps, 25 miles from the highest mountain in the entire Alps (Mont Blanc which is in the Graian Alps). Mont Blanc is also interesting in that its parent peak is none other than Mount Everest itself.

Training may be indoors or outdoors, depending on the weather. The social aspect of the gasshuku may involve fun on the snow slopes (e.g. skiing etc.).

This is organised by the London Karate-do Shoto Association under the guidance of Dr Mohi Chowdhury.

Limited to: 25 residential applicants or 30 including applicants who are either non-residential or who are arranging their own accommodation.

Unlike other events, this one is NOT on a first come, first served basis. There will be an application deadline. All applications received will then be reviewed and then 25 of these applicants will be invited to this gasshuku.

Suitable for: All ages from 18 upwards.

Guests, partners, family are welcome at this event. They do not take part in the training, of course, but are welcome to take part in the social side of the event. The fee charged takes this into consideration.

Training Details: Training will be in Megève (indoors in the gymnasium of the Collège Saint Jean-Baptiste which is located at 73 Route du Crêt du Midi, 74120 Megève, France), 12 minutes drive from the chalet accommodation (or 32 minutes for the walking enthusiast!).

The following instructors have been invited to this Winter Gasshuku:

  • Bruno Santos (Portugal)
  • Maria Marfleet (England - Severn Area)
  • Mohi Chowdhury (England - London)
  • Stephen McGlinchey (Scotland)

Travel: We fly as a single group from London City Airport to Geneva Airport on Friday morning.
We then hire several vehicles at Geneva Airport to travel from Geneva Airport to Megève and locally in/around Megève.
We return from Geneva Airport to London Heathrow Airport on Sunday evening.

If you are travelling independently from the London group, here are some helpful links for arranging your travel:

  • Flights
  • Car rental (make sure you have car insurance, winter tyres, and winter chains for the tyres!)

Accommodation: This is dependent on the availability of space, numbers of instructors and participants.

Accommodation (for those who are residential) will be in this chalet based at 32 Route du Tour, 74120 Megève, France.

There are 4 main areas of the chalet for accommodation (pictures can be found here):

  • 'SUN ROOM' (maximum capacity = 6 people):
    • Area 1, room sleeping three people (triplet or double+single)
    • Area 2, room sleeping two people (twin or double)
    • Area 3, open area sleeping 1 person on a sofa bed
  • 'AIR ROOM' (maximum capacity = 5 people):
    • Area 4, sleeping three people (triplet)
    • Area 5, under low mezzanine, sleeping 2 people (twin or double)
  • 'WATER ROOM' (maximum capacity = 4 people):
    • Area 6, sleeping three people (triplet)
    • Area 7, under low mezzanine, sleeping 1 (small) person
  • 'EARTH' ROOM' (maximum capacity = 4 people):
