Aiki Karate Course 2012 - Belgium

Date(s): 18-19 February, 2012

Location/Venue(s): The Shudokan Dojo
50, Quai des Ardennes
4020 Liege - Belgium

Organisers: Aiki Karate Do Association
12, Rue des Hetres
4870 Fraipont - Belgium

Outline of Event: "When you are as one with your opponent and move naturally with him without opposition, then there is no such thing as a first strike. The meaning of Karate ni sente nashi (There is no first strike in karate) cannot be understood until you achieve this state."
             The Heart of Karate-Do - Shigeru Egami, Kodansha Int., Tokyo , 1980, p 19

The vocation of our school is to contribute to and unify three major principles of modern Budo:

Judo : use, by the flexibility, the strength of the aggressor
Aikido : to transcend the fight to discover the harmony
Karate-do shotokai: the union body-spirit to mobilize all the energy and make only one with the partner.

We shall be happy to receive you on Saturday and Sunday, 19-20 February 2011, in Shudokan, in Liege, to share this approach. This is organised by the Aiki Karate-do Association under the guidance of Master Yves Thelen in Belgium.

Limited to: 50 practitioners. Please contact the organisers for further information.

Suitable for: All grades/skill levels.
All ages from 14 upwards.

Younger applicants may be considered on two conditions:
1) They are accompanied by a responsible adult (e.g. parent or teacher acting in loco parentis).
2) They have a letter of recommendation from their sensei or principal teacher.

Guests, partners, family are welcome at this event. They do not take part in the training, of course, but are welcome to take part in the social side of the event. The fee, however, remains the same per person.

Training Details: We have a tatami of 220 square metres. To be capable of falling is not indispensable: each one will practice according to his/her own possibilities.

Simplicity: we shall try our best to avoid speeches and applauses in order to 'maximum' time to communicate our practice. The youngest will be invited to help in the preservation of the Dojo and the cafeteria.

Rigour: the schedule will be strictly respected.

Humility and trust: see accommodation section.

Accommodation: It will be possible for those on a tight budget to sleep on the tatami (priority will be given to the first twenty applicants - you will need to bring a sleeping bag).

Room 1 (dojo): can sleep up to 20 people (the gents will probably sleep here*) Room 2 (studio): can sleep 3-4 people (the ladies will probably sleep here*) Couples: 2 couples may be accommodated at Master Thelen's home.

All sleeping arrangements will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Making an application does not guarantee that you will get the sleeping arrangement that you have requested. You should wait to receive confirmation from the organisers before assuming this.

* Assuming that more men will apply than women, of course. If it turns out the other way around, the sleeping arrangements may be reversed.
